A Gift That Keeps on Giving

How can we help people remember how much we care and continue in our prayers for them?

RB Community has a wonderful ministry you can be a part of. We create a gift that keeps on giving.

Prayer Shawls are given to individuals who could use a comforting embrace as they are go through a difficult time in their life. This year 35 folks were comforted by receiving one of these treasures.

Psalm 85:17 Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.

Here are some thoughts from one of our volunteers:

As I reflect on our Prayer Shawl Ministry, I recall the time that I gave an aging friend a shawl on one of my frequent visits.  She was a strong 107-year-old Christian lady who was always alert and friendly on every visit.  Whenever I visited, she would have her prayer shawl either on her lap or around her shoulders. She would say “This is me wrapped in God’s comfort.”

One day just as I was preparing for our next visit, I received a phone call informing me that she had just passed and I rushed to her room.

As I entered her room for the last time, I took comfort as I stood by her bedside looking down at her gracefully covered with her prayer shawl.  All I could say was: “May God’s Grace be upon this garment of prayer… warming, comforting, and embracing.”

Prayer shawls have been made for centuries, symbolic of an inclusive and unconditionally loving God. That was certainly demonstrated in this case.

Please consider joining this wonderful ministry. We need more knitters and crocheters to create prayer shawls for homebound church members. And we would also love to have a knitting or crocheting instructor to help us out.

Yarn and patterns available or create your own.
